Job overview The Engineering Technical Assistant will bring together the various elements of Energy and utility resource management to deliver sustainable solutions, and will deliver key objectives for the Trust. They will have responsibility for coordinating resources to ensure objectives and outcomes are met in relation to energy management. The post holder will take the lead role in ensuring the Trust meets, and where possible exceeds, its statutory obligations in the areas of energy and utility management. They will proactively manage energy and water use across the Trust including: bill validation; energy budgeting; maintaining records of consumption and spend; internal reporting; identifying and implementing energy saving measures; and recharging tenants; and providing support and advice to other team. The post holder will influence the organisation and its behaviour by engaging both clinical and non-clinical colleagues with key areas of activities, and further develop behaviour change strategies. The post holder will display the highest professional engineering standards. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the engineering teams, capital development and environment teams and the sustainability team. They will ensure that their working practices comply with the Trust’s Health & Safety policies and protocols. Main duties of the job Maintain records of energy consumption in formats which support: the trust’s requirements for: financial management; statutory and voluntary reporting activities undertaken by the trust; legislative requirements (e.g. building energy certification). Liaison and interface with trust personnel and external contractors/consultants obtaining quotations and sourcing minor contracts and services Maintain records of meter reading and invoiced energy consumption to provide a continuous visual representation of performance and enable: budget monitoring within the trust; annual reporting of energy performance; future competitive tendering of utilities contracts; tenants to be recharged for energy consumption where appropriate; and energy consumption patterns and other information to be available other teams/directorates across the trust as required. Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and costs through changes in operational practices, investment in energy saving technologies. Prepare tender documentation when utility supply contracts are renewed (generally every three years for gas and electricity, every two years for liquid fuels and water/sewage). Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria GCSE or equivalent in maths and English Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification or experience Previous experience Essential criteria Proven experience of managing a busy office or as a senior administrator with a significant level of responsibility. Proven practical experience of setting up and maintaining effective and efficient workflow and administrative systems Desirable criteria Experience of working within the NHS Skills/Knowledge/ Ability Essential criteria Demonstrable communication and influencing skills with the ability to remain calm, effective and efficient during difficult situations.
