About the Role
At Imperial War Museum (IWM), we are one of the world's leading authorities on conflict and its impact on people's lives from 1914 to the present day and beyond. Through our collections, exhibitions and public programmes, we share powerful personal stories that inspire reflection, challenge perceptions and deepen understanding of the causes and consequences of war. As a Fee Paid Exhibitions Technician, you will play an important role in bringing these stories to life. Working within the Exhibitions Workshop team, you will help build, install and maintain exhibitions and gallery spaces that enable visitors to engage with our collections in meaningful and memorable ways. You will join a collaborative team of skilled professionals passionate about creating high-quality museum experiences across IWM's branches.

The role involves constructing exhibition elements such as wall structures, display cases, cladding, panels, plinths and exhibition furniture from design plans and briefs. You will carry out decorating, finishing and making-good works to gallery spaces and exhibition structures, support the installation and positioning of audiovisual equipment, and assist with the installation, maintenance and dismantling of temporary exhibitions. Additionally, you will support the upkeep of permanent galleries, move exhibition materials and equipment across locations, operate workshop machinery and hand tools safely, and maintain high standards of health and safety and cleanliness in workshop and gallery environments.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues, partners and contractors to deliver exhibition projects on time and to budget, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and may be required to travel to other IWM branches across the UK to support exhibition activity. This casual, fee-paid position offers a varied environment combining workshop fabrication with hands-on gallery installation work, requiring practical skills, creativity and problem-solving abilities.
