About the Role
Camden Council is committed to building a borough where everyone can thrive by making it the best place to live, work, study, and visit. The food industry in Camden is thriving, and the Food Safety team plays a critical role in ensuring that food produced and sold in Camden is safe and healthy to eat. Working in partnership with the business community, the team drives regulatory compliance, protects consumers, and stimulates successful business growth for the benefit of all.

We are expanding our team and recruiting several Food Safety Environmental Health Officers and Food Safety Officers to join one of London’s largest and busiest food safety teams. You will be responsible for delivering the full range of food safety and infectious disease functions, providing resilience to the wider Public Protection service by responding flexibly to a broad range of environmental health and public health functions as required.

Your duties will include enforcement of food safety (including hygiene and standards) and health and safety legislation in primarily higher risk food businesses, investigating complaints and foodborne illnesses, and supporting food businesses to improve. You will investigate, negotiate, and mediate between parties to deliver positive outcomes, using the full range of legal enforcement powers when necessary. You will also develop and deliver special projects, policy, and research within your areas of expertise.

The role offers substantial autonomy, involving report writing, resolution, preventative, and advisory work. You will work within an enabled and empowered team-focused service, expected to work flexibly to meet evolving service demands and contribute to a culture of shared knowledge, experience, and responsibility for decision-making on complex issues.
