About the Role
Cubitts is a spectacle maker based in King's Cross, London, where every stage of the eyewear creation process happens on site — from milling and shaping to polishing, glazing, fitting, repairing, and renewing. This role is for a freelance storyteller and content creator who can uncover and tell the stories behind the craft and culture of spectacles.
You will work across social, editorial, and longer-form channels, creating content that captures the unique stories found at the workshop bench, fittings, and the wider cultural context of eyewear. This is not about filling a content calendar but about identifying and crafting meaningful stories that resonate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Finding and capturing stories at the workshop and beyond
- Researching and developing cultural and editorial content
- Deciding the format and length of each story, from short social clips to longer YouTube films
- Shooting and editing short-form videos for platforms like Instagram and TikTok
- Creating hero product films, styling content, behind-the-scenes pieces, and longer-form videos
- Photographing frames, people, and processes to visually tell stories
- Assisting with shoot planning including models, locations, and studios
- Explaining the craftsmanship and unique aspects of Cubitts eyewear
- Building recurring content formats and improving them based on audience response
This role requires spending significant time in person at the Cubitts workshop to capture authentic stories rather than working remotely.
Experience
Proven experience in filmmaking, photography, or content creation with a strong visual eye. Comfortable shooting and editing video independently. Experience with longer-form or YouTube content is a bonus.
About you
You are curious about design, craft, materials, people, and how things are made. You notice details others might miss and can turn them into compelling stories. You work well independently, taking projects from initial idea through to finished piece. You understand pacing, framing, sound, and what captures attention quickly but also appreciate depth beyond trends.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required. What matters most is your portfolio, storytelling ability, and enthusiasm for the craft and culture of eyewear.
