About the Role
The GP Human Resources Manager will play a pivotal role in managing all HR functions across the practice’s two sites. Key responsibilities include managing employee relations matters such as disciplinary, grievance, absence management, capability, redundancy, and retirement processes. You will conduct informal meetings, lead investigations, and chair or support formal hearings as required, liaising with external HR advisors to ensure consistent and legally compliant advice. You will maintain strong communication and professional relationships across the practice.
In addition, you will maintain and update employment contracts for all staff groups, ensuring compliance with current legislation, and develop, review, and implement HR policies and procedures. You will lead recruitment for non-clinical roles and support clinical recruitment, managing pre-employment checks and coordinating inductions. Maintaining accurate HR records in line with CQC, NHS, and GDPR standards will be essential, alongside managing absence records and supporting return-to-work processes.
The role also involves developing and implementing appraisal frameworks, coordinating training and development plans, supporting governance and compliance with CQC requirements, and contributing to audit, risk management, and quality improvement processes. You will oversee staffing levels, business continuity planning, and maintain the staff rota and annual leave calendar. This role requires flexibility to undertake additional duties as directed by the GP Partners.
Experience
Proven experience in managing employee relations including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, and capability processes. Experience in recruitment, HR policy development, and compliance with employment legislation is essential. Familiarity with NHS employment standards, CQC regulations, and GDPR requirements is highly desirable.
About you
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build professional relationships across multiple teams. Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Confident in leading investigations and formal hearings, and comfortable liaising with external advisors. Proactive, flexible, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Qualifications
Relevant HR qualifications or CIPD accreditation preferred. Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices is essential. Experience working within healthcare or GP practice settings is an advantage but not mandatory.
