About the Role
As a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) at Brondesbury Medical Centre, you will assist in the provision of nursing services to patients attending the practice and support nurses and GPs in delivering general and specialist medical care. Your responsibilities will include performing routine patient care tasks as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs, maintaining and cleaning medical equipment in line with infection control policies, and ensuring treatment rooms are well stocked and tidy. You will chaperone and assist patients during clinical examinations, record vital signs such as height, weight, and blood pressure, and obtain specimens including urine samples. Additionally, you will carry out phlebotomy duties, preparing blood samples and documentation for laboratory processing. Training will be provided for Smoking Cessation and Health Promotion activities, including conducting NHS Health Checks and Initial Chronic Disease Checks. You will also handle telephone communications in treatment rooms, undertake housekeeping duties, maintain accurate records using IM&T systems, and monitor children’s immunisation statuses. Other duties may be allocated by management as required.

Phlebotomy Duties
Ensure patient comfort and consent prior to blood collection, collect blood samples following training and procedures, and store samples appropriately. Accurately label samples to confirm patient identity, verify patient details against GP/Nurse requests, and record collections in patient records. Ensure timely dispatch of samples to laboratories, report anomalies to senior staff, notify clinicians of significant patient issues, and liaise with administrative team members to support smooth operations.

Experience
Previous experience in a healthcare or clinical setting is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.

Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required to apply; however, relevant healthcare or phlebotomy training will be an advantage. Training for specific duties such as Smoking Cessation and Health Promotion will be provided during employment.
