Introduction
The Governance Office plays a central role in the House Administration by supporting the governance of the House of Commons. We make Parliament happen by supporting our Member-led governing body, the House of Commons Commission, and other governance bodies across the House Administration.
Our team promotes a common direction through the strategy, enables better decision-making and ensures compliance with the highest governance standards.
The Role
The Head of Corporate Risk is the senior risk adviser and head of the risk profession for the House of Commons Administration and joint departments.
You will use your professional experience and subject matter expertise to proactively guide, support and constructively challenge colleagues across Parliament, with a relentless focus on the outcomes and benefits of effective risk management.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
Provide subject-matter expertise, advice, guidance and support to the Clerk, boards and committees, risk owners and colleagues across the organisation, providing strong insight to drive strategic decisions.
Design and deliver effective and streamlined risk management processes.
Ensure that policies, processes and guidance reflect new ideas and best practice, informed by internal and external networks.
Ensure that colleagues at all levels are fully aware of and understand their risk management responsibilities.
Manage and develop a small team, role modelling the principles of inclusion and diversity.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
IRM Certificate or Diploma in Risk Management, degree in risk management, CCAB, CIMA or equivalent.
Experience of leading the development and implementation of risk management frameworks and developing organisational risk maturity.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish professional and collaborative working relationships to achieve common goals: influencing, providing constructive challenge to, and building linkages between, stakeholders at all levels, including boards and senior leaders.
Ability to think strategically and implement a clear and compelling vison for the organisation, analysing proposals and reaching well-judged decisions under challenging circumstances.
Strong leadership skills, setting clear objectives and developing and motivating teams to deliver results - including across formal reporting lines - promoting a culture of inclusion and diversity.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate senior-level group discussions, develop and present board papers and reports, and convey complex information in a straightforward way.
