About the Role
The Government Cyber Unit's mission is to protect public services from cyber threats and digital resilience failures. As Head of Vulnerability Management, you will set the strategic direction for vulnerability management across government and coordinate actions to reduce cyber risk through effective identification, mitigation, and remediation of vulnerabilities. This role is based within the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and works closely with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and wider government and public sector stakeholders.

You will lead the government’s approach to vulnerability management, including governance, policy, assurance, and risk reporting. You will oversee central vulnerability management services such as the Vulnerability Reporting Service (VRS) and Vulnerability Monitoring Service (VMS), driving continuous improvement and ensuring efficient risk reduction at scale.

This role involves advising ministers, senior officials, and cyber security leadership on vulnerability risks and operational responses, supporting cross-government incident management, and managing a team of lead analysts. You may also be required to support out-of-hours on-call rotas for cyber and digital resilience incidents, with remuneration or flexible working arrangements provided.

The role requires Developed Vetting (DV) clearance due to access to highly sensitive information. Experience
- Significant experience leading vulnerability management in a large, complex organisation
- Deep understanding of vulnerabilities and vulnerability management practices
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to set strategic direction and lead cross-functional teams
- Proven ability to lead delivery in complex environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, able to build trusted relationships and manage competing priorities
- Ability to provide clear, credible advice to senior decision makers, including translating complex technical information for non-technical audiences
- Skilled at balancing strategic objectives, operational risks, and stakeholder requirements

Qualifications
