About the Role
As a Health Economist at UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), you will build the economic evidence base for the agency and help develop its economics capability. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply and develop analytical skills, support evidence-based decision-making on critical health priorities, and influence the organisation's culture around the use of economics.
You will collaborate with epidemiologists, data scientists, and public health experts to assess the economic costs and benefits of preparing for and responding to health threats and hazards. Your work will involve literature reviews, primary research, and analysis of large-scale data assets such as hospital records and microbiology results.
You will incorporate economic evaluations into decision-making processes, applying methods including econometrics and adhering to professional Government analytical standards such as the Green Book or Aqua Book.
The role includes leading research programmes, managing projects and stakeholders, and shaping the economic profession within UKHSA. You will produce cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analyses to guide policy and intervention decisions, develop robust economic cases for key projects, and contribute to the agency’s response to public health incidents.
Recent projects include estimating the burden and cost of infectious diseases on NHS hospitals, supporting spending reviews, and preparing business cases for pandemic preparedness.
UKHSA is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, fostering an inclusive culture where differences drive innovative solutions to meet workforce and community needs.
