About the Role
You will support hospitalised children and young people by leading alternative focus activities during procedures, providing therapeutic play preparation, and creating an age-appropriate welcoming environment throughout the area. Your role will help patients and families manage anxiety effectively. You will work sensitively with children, young people, and families under stress as part of a supportive team where play and recreation are valued as an integral part of young people’s treatment. The play service team consists of 35 experienced staff, led by a play services manager who will actively support your professional development. We welcome applications from individuals currently completing the FdA Healthcare Play Specialism in their second year. Successful trainees will be paid in accordance with annex 21 of NHS Terms and Conditions (75% of maximum of Band 4) until fully qualified.

Experience
Experience of working with children and young people in a healthcare setting is essential. Ability to deal sensitively with families under stress is required.

Qualifications
FdA in Healthcare Play Specialism, Edex PDC/HND in Specialised Play for the Sick Child, previous HPSC/HPSEB, or international equivalent is required. Applications from those currently completing the FdA Healthcare Play Specialism (second year) are welcomed.
