Hours
This role requires flexibility including periods of On Call, additional hours, weekends, bank holidays, and occasional out-of-hours work. Regular UK travel and occasional overnight stays are required.

Salary
£37,682 per annum plus a Level 2 Flexibility Payment paid monthly. HMRC also contributes £10,916 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

About the Role
Join HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) within the CODE Technology Infrastructure Team (CTI). This role supports serious and complex tax evasion and crime investigations by delivering and maintaining robust, reliable, high-performance IT infrastructure systems and services. You will be responsible for building, administering, maintaining, and monitoring diverse systems including servers, storage, endpoint management, networks, telephony, and business applications.
You will provide third-line support, work closely with infrastructure managers and engineers, and collaborate with other teams to achieve shared objectives. This role offers the opportunity to influence the technical direction within a dynamic and innovative environment, supporting FIS CODE Infrastructure and Technology.
HMRC operates flexible and hybrid working policies, allowing up to 2 days per week remote work where suitable. The role is office-based with an expectation to spend 60% of working time in the office to support collaboration and development.
Successful candidates must obtain National Security Vetting at Security Check (SC) level and later Developed Vetting (DV). This post is open to UK nationals only and requires meeting residency requirements.

Experience
- Proven background in IT infrastructure including virtual machines, datacentres, and environments.
- Providing 3rd-line support for incidents, service requests, tasks, and problems following ITIL standards.
- Managing datacentre activities including capacity and availability.
- Installing, managing, and maintaining end user devices in a Windows environment.
- Supporting hardware services planning, installation, maintenance, and improvement within data centres.
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing root causes across multiple technology capabilities.
- Awareness of information security and security controls.
- Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications
- Demonstrable knowledge or experience with network technologies and infrastructure solutions including computing, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, COTS, and open-source packages.
- Knowledge or exposure to virtualization technologies such as VMWare, vSphere, or Horizon.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows domains and associated services (Active Directory, GPOs, domain trusts, DNS, DHCP, PKI).
- Desirable qualifications include MCSE, CCNA, SAA-C03, CompTIA, ITIL Foundation or equivalent understanding.
- Experience with Cisco, ACI, NXOS, Fortigate firewalls is advantageous.
- Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD tools like Gitlab, programming/IaC languages (Powershell, Python, Terraform), and project management tools (Jira, MS Project) is desirable.
- Full UK Driving Licence is desirable.
- Candidates must be able to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance and later Developed Vetting (DV) clearance, requiring UK residency periods.
