About the Role
The Interventional Radiology team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is seeking registered nurses and ODPs to support the expansion of our services. We perform both Neuro and non-Neuro interventions, requiring a skilled and dedicated team to ensure optimum patient care. No two days are the same in interventional radiology; mornings may involve assisting with lifesaving stroke thrombectomies, while afternoons could include administering conscious sedation and providing care during targeted chemotherapy treatments. Our nursing team covers interventions using ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and three dedicated interventional rooms.
Teamwork, flexibility, and enthusiasm for delivering the best patient care are essential. Planned workdays can change rapidly with emergency cases, so adaptability is crucial. We receive referrals from nearly every hospital specialty, encountering a wide variety of patients with diverse needs.
Visits to the department and shadowing opportunities are welcomed to understand daily work. Newly qualified nurses are supported with preceptorship.
Key responsibilities include acting as a scrub practitioner during procedures, circulating in procedure rooms and imaging suites, attending MRI and nuclear medicine when nurse supervision is required, administering procedural sedation (training provided), providing nursing care and reassurance, assessing patients pre-procedure, documenting patient needs, communicating with the multidisciplinary team, and joining the on-call rota after training.
The role requires the ability to wear PPE (lead aprons) for extended periods during procedures. Preference will be given to internal Trust staff and NHS At Risk staff across Devon with relevant experience.
University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is committed to innovation, clinical excellence, and great customer care. We offer excellent career development opportunities in a vibrant, modern city with a historic reputation for adventure.
Please note all communication will be electronic. We support flexible working requests and encourage applications from diverse backgrounds. Vacancies may close early; if you have not heard within four weeks of the closing date, please assume you have not been shortlisted.
Experience
No prior experience is necessary; enthusiasm to learn is essential. Preference will be given to internal Trust staff and NHS At Risk staff with recent relevant experience.
About you
