About the Role
This role is based in the BBC News Russian London newsroom. You will work as part of a team producing, updating and translating news stories for the BBC News Russian website. The position involves shift work, including late nights and weekends. You will write stories on a wide range of topics and contribute to the live coverage of the Ukraine war. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in international news, a thorough knowledge of Russia and neighbouring states, and strong writing skills. The ability to work quickly and calmly under pressure to meet tight deadlines when news breaks is essential.

Your key responsibilities include writing, editing, translating and adapting news content for BBC News Russian across digital platforms, ensuring accuracy and adherence to editorial standards. You will develop original story ideas, cultivate sources, manage breaking news updates, and contribute creative ideas for digital storytelling. Collaboration with reporters and editorial colleagues, use of digital publishing systems, and building effective working relationships across the BBC are also important aspects of the role.

Experience
Substantial experience in digital journalism with a strong understanding of online news production, audience needs and multi-platform storytelling. In-depth knowledge of Russian, regional and international news, politics and current affairs. Experience creating effective digital-first journalism and using social media platforms for newsgathering and audience engagement.

About you
Full professional fluency in written and spoken Russian with outstanding writing, editing and translation skills. Strong command of English with excellent comprehension and ability to work effectively in a bilingual news environment. Ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure, making sound editorial decisions and responding quickly to breaking news. Strong knowledge of media law, editorial standards and journalistic best practice. Ability to produce content in various formats and build relationships with contributors, sources and key newsmakers.

Qualifications
