Hours
Full Time - 12 month Fixed Term Contract. This role operates on a rota basis and includes weekend shifts as part of a rotating schedule. Flexible working options are available and will be discussed at offer stage.
Salary
£30,000 - £40,000 plus London Weighting depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range reflects internal benchmarking.
About the Role
BBC News Mundo, part of the BBC World Service, is an international multimedia broadcaster delivering news and original stories to Spanish-speaking audiences across Latin America and beyond via digital platforms and social media including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and WhatsApp. We are seeking a passionate Journalist with strong digital video skills to join our team. You will work closely with the Senior Journalist Team Manager, producers, correspondents, contributors and editors to create original, impactful content for BBC Mundo's YouTube channel and other video platforms to BBC standards. The role requires creativity, versatility, sound editorial judgment, and a strong understanding of international and Latin American affairs. You will be expected to respond to breaking news and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while bringing innovative storytelling and treatment ideas to the team.
Experience
- Full command and up-to-date knowledge of Spanish as a first (or equivalent) language with excellent written skills and the ability to tell stories effectively through language.
- Strong experience in digital video, including shooting and editing videos for social media.
- Evidence of recent original journalistic work of impact in the target area.
- Complete comprehension of written and spoken English with effective communication skills.
- Experience reporting in the field on international and/or Latin American current affairs.

- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced, changeable environment.
- Strong understanding of what makes engaging digital video content and how it is consumed across different platforms.
- Willingness to travel off-base on short reporting trips and assignments.
- Ability to work flexibly across teams and a range of skills, adhering to BBC standards and values.
Qualifications
Desired but not required:
- Experience with live and recorded video presentation.
- Wide and current familiarity with international news and/or the target area, including its history, politics, social issues and culture.
- Thorough knowledge of the aims, objectives and standards of the BBC World Service.
- Understanding of the BBC's distinctive news agenda and wider strategic interests.
