About the Role
As a DevOps / Platform Engineer in the Core Team, you will be part of ITV's Group Technology Platforms business area based in London. The Core Team supports software development by developing the patterns, processes, and tooling that make up the Common Platform - ITV's internal development platform. This involves leveraging the best of open source, cloud native, and SaaS tooling, packaged into highly automated, easy-to-deploy template architectures and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) patterns. You will own the Common Platform tooling, responsible for bug and issue resolution as well as feature requests from platform consumers. Working alongside Embedded Platform Engineers, you will ensure best practices, DevOps capabilities, and tooling are shared across ITV's software development teams. You will communicate upcoming platform changes through presentations, training workshops, and coaching sessions.
Your responsibilities will include implementing IaC with Terraform, prioritising work for upgrades and business delivery, supporting engineers with deployment and production issues, reviewing and approving pull requests, maintaining infrastructure such as Jenkins, managing Kubernetes deployments in AWS, designing future infrastructure, and sharing best practices within the team.
Experience
- Proven knowledge and experience of secure cloud practices and building highly performant, scalable cloud infrastructure (ideally AWS)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies, ideally Terraform, including version control strategies
- Experience with containerisation and deploying container workloads, ideally on Kubernetes
- Experience with Continuous Delivery / Continuous Integration platforms such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools
- Experience responding to production incidents to diagnose and resolve infrastructure-related issues
- Knowledge of cloud cost optimisation balanced with resilient infrastructure needs
- In-depth knowledge of Linux (CentOS, Amazon Linux 2)
- Experience working within an Agile delivery methodology
About you
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide and receive constructive feedback, especially in design and code collaboration (e.g. PR reviews)
- Passionate about working within a team structure and building relationships across multiple teams
- Able to travel to London once a month to collaborate with the wider Common Platform and embedded teams
- Experience and knowledge of Kubernetes management tools such as Helm
- Experience with mentoring, coaching, or line management, as the role includes line managing junior team members
Qualifications
Not explicitly stated, but relevant experience and skills in cloud infrastructure, IaC, containerisation, CI/CD, and Linux are required.
