About the Role
At Hammersmith & Fulham, we are ambitious in reforming the council to ensure this is a place for everybody. Within the Environment Department, we offer a wide range of services to help make the borough an attractive place, one that is safe, clean and green and one in which our residents take pride. Our residents want a borough that is clean and tidy, where they can feel safe day and night, and where the council protects the law abiding and enforces against those who are not. The Community Safety Unit has benefited from significant investment to meet the needs of our residents and elected members.
As a Law Enforcement Officer you will be at the forefront of our work to address environmental crime in the borough. Working in a dedicated team, you will get to know the borough, its residents, businesses, parks and open spaces, housing estates and more. Our Law Enforcement Officers are our eyes and ears and ambassadors for the council as we seek to drive down environmental crime and anti-social behaviour. You will work under a Senior Law Enforcement Officer and be responsible for ensuring compliance across a broad range of legislation within your assigned area(s).
You will take pride and be accountable for ensuring that service requests, members enquiries, and management taskings are responded to promptly and to the highest standard. You will ensure all case work progresses in line with legal frameworks and timescales, progressing cases to court where necessary.
As a front-line officer, expect to spend at least 80% of your time on foot patrols, alone or with colleagues. This role requires experience in customer service and/or front-line service delivery, with a commitment to high standards of customer care and a willingness to learn and develop professionally. You will also engage in significant joint working across council services and partner organisations, so experience and strength in collaborative and partnership working is desirable.
Upon joining, you will receive thorough training to become accredited under the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) and gain a broad portfolio of enforcement tools via relevant accreditation. You will need to apply for and clear Non Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV2) to obtain CSAS accreditation.
This role operates seven days a week, providing on-street presence at times and locations of greatest need. It is a complex and challenging role requiring teamwork, self-organisation, critical thinking and strong communication skills. If you are ready to rise to this challenge, we would like to hear from you.
We particularly welcome and encourage female applicants as this group is currently underrepresented in our service.
Please note that applications must include a personal statement evidencing your experience against the job description; CVs or letters of interest alone will not be accepted.
Experience
Experience in customer service and/or front-line service delivery is required. Experience in collaborative working and partnership engagement is desirable.

We particularly encourage applications from female candidates to improve representation within the service.
