About the Role
HB Public Law is a leading local authority shared legal practice, Lexcel accredited and committed to delivering high-quality legal services to the public sector. You will join a dedicated team providing direct legal support to Hounslow’s Children’s Services, rated Good with Outstanding leadership by OFSTED. The role involves advising on all matters relating to children’s social care functions including child protection, public law care proceedings, pre-proceedings, fostering and adoption. You will provide robust legal advice both verbally and in writing, attend face-to-face and virtual meetings, and have the opportunity to represent social care clients in court proceedings where required. The position offers flexible working, a supportive environment, and opportunities for training and development to maintain a healthy work-life balance. While employed by Harrow Council, the primary client is Hounslow, allowing you to develop strong client relationships and in-depth knowledge of the department. Cross-working within other authorities in the shared service may be required occasionally.
Experience
- Specialist knowledge of English law, including local government law, equalities law, and data protection.
- Experience in children’s social care law, particularly public law proceedings and duties to children in need and looked after children.
- Knowledge of education matters including special educational needs.
- Practical understanding of local government law and public law principles.
- Experience providing written and oral advice to senior managers and members or equivalent.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.

Qualifications
