Introduction
The Select Committee Team is integral to the successful delivery of the House Administration's core purpose to support the UK's parliamentary democracy by delivering excellent services to the UK Parliament. Select Committees represent one of the great success stories of parliamentary scrutiny in recent times, and their success relies to a great degree on the expertise and commitment of colleagues within the Select Committee Team.
The Role
The Managing Director, Select Committee Team is a member of the House of Commons Executive Board, giving the scrutiny function a presence at the Board, helping to take forward some of the most important objectives. The House Service Strategy 2023-27 and the Corporate Business Plan for 2023-24 provide more information about these objectives and the challenges ahead.
The key priorities for the post holder will be:
Continuing to develop the effective scrutiny agenda and addressing the opportunities and challenges associated with Select Committees
Taking forward the continuing cultural transformation agenda within the Select Committee Team and championing inclusion and diversity within the Team;
Further developing and delivering the Vision for 2027 agreed by the SCT select leadership team focused on products, places and people;
Acting (with the Managing Director of the Research & Information Team) as co-sponsor of our community of policy, research and analysis professionals.
The post holder is expected to:
Be a visible senior leader who role models the House of Commons values and shows leadership and commitment to making the House Administration more diverse and more inclusive;
Be an effective member of the Commons Executive Board;
Contribute effectively to the strategic leadership of the House Service, including sponsorship and management of programmes and projects which may be assigned as required;
Manage people and resources effectively and efficiently within SCT, including acting as a budget holder as required, and contributing effectively to SCT and wider House governance.

An awareness of the constitutional and political context in which select committee scrutiny is undertaken.

Ability to analyse a situation, drawing on a range of sources, and to consider innovative solutions which take into account wider consequences.
Acute political and organisational judgement with the ability to make sound high-level strategic and tactical decisions quickly under pressure.
Influencing, Negotiating and Communicating
Ability to engage and maintain the confidence of senior stakeholders
Communicates clearly to convey vision and strategy in a way that engages and motivates others, and delivers difficult messages to senior stakeholders effectively when required.
Strategic thinking, Planning and Organising
Excellent overall understanding of the strategic challenges faced by the House Administration and experience of prioritising and targeting resources to resolve conflicts and deliver results.
Experience of leading, contributing to, and helping deliver complex change programmes.
Ability to look beyond the Team and House to identify best practice..
