About the Role
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Critical Facilities Technician to join our Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) team. This role is ideal for individuals with military experience looking to transition into the private sector. You will support the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure that powers AWS cloud services. AWS data centers operate 24/7 and rely on highly reliable power and cooling systems. As a technician, you will perform hands-on maintenance, equipment inspections, and troubleshooting to ensure infrastructure systems operate safely and reliably. You will work as part of a team responsible for maintaining mission-critical equipment including power distribution systems, generators, UPS systems, and cooling infrastructure. The role involves shift rotation to support continuous data center operations.

The Data Center Engineering Operations team maintains the critical infrastructure supporting AWS data centers. Technicians operate and maintain complex mechanical and electrical systems that provide reliable power and cooling for AWS cloud services. The team works in a safety-focused, highly operational environment where attention to detail and strong technical skills are essential to maintaining service availability.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned preventative and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems
- Conduct routine plant inspections and equipment checks
- Monitor alarms and system performance using Building Management Systems (BMS) and other tools
- Assist with fault finding and troubleshooting across power distribution and cooling equipment
- Support operation and testing of critical systems including diesel generators, UPS systems, switchgear, and cooling equipment
- Supervise specialist vendors performing maintenance or repairs
- Follow permit-to-work and safety procedures
- Participate in incident response and troubleshooting during infrastructure events
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and operational logs
- Support testing activities including generator tests and failover exercises

A Day in the Life
A typical shift may include performing daily plant inspections, monitoring alarms via BMS, responding to infrastructure alerts, carrying out preventative maintenance, supporting generator tests, supervising vendors, and completing shift logs and operational handovers.

Requirements

Experience
- Experience working with electrical or mechanical infrastructure systems
- Hands-on experience performing maintenance, inspections, or troubleshooting on plant equipment
- Knowledge of infrastructure systems such as power distribution equipment, generators, UPS systems, HVAC/cooling systems, pumps, motors, or industrial equipment
- Ability to follow operational procedures and safety standards
- Willingness to work in a shift-based environment supporting 24/7 operations

About You

Qualifications
- Preferred: 2+ years of data center engineering operations experience
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or equivalent engineering discipline
- No strict qualification requirements; relevant experience and a passion to learn are highly valued
