About the Role
Understanding how chemicals in our environment cause disease has been constrained by a fundamental lack of tools. The Tissue Biology Group is developing spatial single-cell genomics technologies and high-throughput screening platforms to reveal, cell by cell, how exposures remodel tissues and drive disease. The group focuses on new methods for single-cell spatial multiomics, in vitro and in vivo screening, and computational analysis of these data.
The successful candidate will lead work on resolving cell lineage in situ by developing and applying methods that recover lineage information alongside spatial coordinates. These methods will be applied to study clonal dynamics in human tissues. This is a method-development post with broad applications in development, ageing, cancer, and environmental exposure, with opportunities for collaboration.
This is a mixed wet/dry laboratory role where the postholder will generate their own data at the bench and take primary responsibility for analysis, supported by the group and LMS core facilities in genomics, flow cytometry, light microscopy, and scientific computing. As a newly established group, there is real scope to shape the project direction with structured mentoring.
The group values curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and mutual respect, aiming to foster growth as scientists and individuals with mentorship at every level and active training support. Members will engage with an extensive network of collaborators, present at international meetings, and publish well-documented, shareable methods and data.
Key skills include experience in molecular biology, experimental genomics and/or computational analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, programming in R and/or Python, and ideally expertise in single-cell and/or spatial genomics library preparation. Additional advantageous skills include DNA methylation sequencing, microfluidics, tissue handling, cryosectioning, immunofluorescence, FACS, and HPC environment knowledge.
