About the Role
The London Borough of Harrow is seeking an Occupational Therapist Assistant to support individuals with specialist needs, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives. Working within the Community Health & Wellbeing Team, you will assist residents ordinarily living in Harrow by providing appropriate advice, information, and signposting to local community assets. Your role will focus on promoting independence in daily living through assessment and provision of non-complex equipment, adaptations, and housing solutions, balancing safety and risk in community settings.
You will undertake Care Act 2014 Assessments and Reviews to help individuals understand their strengths, assets, and wishes, maximising their potential for independence. This role involves collaboration with health and social care colleagues and other partners to deliver innovative and visionary community support.
The position requires working across various community-based settings including Community Hubs and regular travel to peripheral equipment stores to collect, deliver, fit, and assess low-level equipment in residents’ homes. A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes are essential, along with the physical ability to safely manage manual tasks associated with the role.
Experience
- Experience of assessment, planning, and delivering packages of care.
- Minimum 1 year experience working as an Occupational Therapist Assistant in a social services setting or equivalent.
About you
- Willingness to undertake intermediate and specialist training as required.
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team and liaise with other agencies.
- Knowledge of the physical, social, and emotional aspects of disability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to act as an OTA Duty Officer and provide OT Duty service as part of a rota with close support.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside office hours.
- Ability to travel to multiple locations within Harrow.
- Physical capability to safely carry out manual handling tasks.

Qualifications
- GCSE or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- Satisfactory enhanced DBS check required.
