About the Role
Join Cygnet Health Care, an established independent provider of health and social care services across England, Scotland, and Wales since 1988. As an Occupational Therapy Assistant at Cygnet Churchill in South London, you will work within an inpatient mental health hospital for men, initially based on the acute mental health ward. This ward focuses on recovery and rehabilitation to enable service users to lead full and independent lives in the community, with opportunities to rotate across acute services.
You will assess, implement, and develop occupational therapy treatment programmes tailored to service users’ diagnoses and needs, based on thorough assessments including risk evaluations. Working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and the Occupational Therapy department, you will operate autonomously with support from qualified occupational therapists and other OT assistants.
The MDT includes nurses, psychologists, psychology assistants, occupational therapists, social workers, and psychiatrists, providing comprehensive support to service users throughout their care journey. This collaborative approach ensures safety, manages risk and relapse, and promotes independence.
We offer a robust induction and preceptorship programme, including shadowing, expert support, and regular virtual Q&A sessions with clinical leads. You will be supported to develop your skills and confidence with dedicated CPD time and opportunities to engage in specialist interest groups and service development.
Benefits include free parking, free meals on duty, NHS Discount Cards, Blue Light Card discounts, and access to a wellbeing centre offering exercise, recipes, financial and mental health advice.
Experience
Previous experience in occupational therapy support or mental health settings is advantageous but not essential. Enthusiasm and commitment to helping others improve their lives are key.
About you
You are motivated, compassionate, and able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. You have excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn and develop professionally within occupational therapy services.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or training in health and social care or occupational therapy support are desirable. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and reference verification prior to employment.
