About the Role
Are you up for a challenge? Dartford Borough Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Park Ranger Team within the busy multi-functional Council Waste, Public Realm & Enforcement Services section. This is a uniformed role working as part of a small team focused on Dartford Parks, children’s playgrounds, open spaces, and patrolling the Buccaneer Bay playground in Central Park on a rota with other Park Rangers and Officers.

You will provide guardianship, security, reassurance, and assistance to the public, acting as the eyes and ears of the Council and Police partners while presenting a friendly public face. Your duties will include enforcing byelaws and relevant legislation, issuing Fixed Penalty Notices for offences such as dog fouling, littering, fly tipping, fly grazing, and breaches of the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO).

The role involves assisting with unauthorised encampments, operating surveillance cameras, and supporting public events throughout the year in the Borough’s parks and open spaces. It is a physically active position requiring patrolling on foot, moving and siting heavy equipment, and providing a reassuring presence to prevent and deter anti-social behaviour.

Patrolling will be conducted both on foot and using 4x4 vehicles to travel between sites as necessary. You may be required to attend Court hearings when needed. Collaboration with agencies such as Kent Police and the Environment Agency is essential, as is occasional support for other Council officers involved in parks, enforcement, events, licensing, and town centre management.

Experience
Previous experience in law enforcement, security, community support, or a similar role is desirable.

Enthusiastic, motivated, and able to work as part of a small team. You should be physically fit to undertake active patrolling and handling of equipment. A professional and friendly approach to public engagement is essential.

Qualifications
You must hold a full driving licence to operate 4x4 vehicles as part of your duties.
