Job Description Overview The London Borough of Harrow are recruiting for a Pensions Supervisor. The successful postholder will support the Pension Team Leader to ensure that an effective and efficient pension service is delivered for current and deferred members and pensioners of the LGPS, TPS and NHS pension schemes. You will ensure that the monthly pension payroll are correctly delivered to time and maintain an overview of the workload spread across the team of Pension Officers and ensure the delivery of quality, consistent advice and agreed service standards are met and identify continuous improvement opportunities for the offering. The successful postholder will provide effective management of the team of Pension Officers to deliver a quality and efficient customer-focussed service. “Harrow Pension Fund has investments of over £1bn, over 6,700 pensioner members, 6900 deferred members and over 5,800 active members”. The Pensions Team acts as the main point of contact for any membership enquiries. The team is responsible for all aspects of Local Government Pension Scheme administration; setting up new members, monitoring and maintenance of pension member records, employer contributions payment of benefits, transfer payments and Additional Voluntary Contributions. The team is also responsible for monitoring and cleansing members’ data to ensure it is fit for purpose and meets the requirements imposed on the Fund by the regulators, the Fund Actuary and HMRC. The team produces annual benefits statements, newsletters and maintains the pensions website. About You The successful postholder will have: The ability to demonstrate current working knowledge of European and British pension statute, Finance Act 2004 and HMRC 2006 legislation. The ability to demonstrate an understanding of a range of local authority pay and conditions and in-depth knowledge of pension legislation in relation to contractual and non-contractual conditions. Knowledge of workflow and imaging applications. A clear understanding of the diverse nature of Harrow’s communities and Harrow’s workforce and, the implications for the organisation development intervention. Experience of deputising for a Shared Services Manager or similar role. Experience of working within a performance management environment. Strong effective working relationships, ability to interact with members of the pension scheme, internal departments and external bodies to deliver pensions services. Dealing with clients in difficult or sensitive situations in a professional manner applying judgment as to whether or not the enquiry / complaint requires escalation. Experience of prioritising own workload in accordance with business needs and of working to tight deadlines within a performance management environment. Ability to provide information on the LGPS and TP ensuring procedures and pension regulations are complied with in full. Good communication skills both written and oral. Ability to record areas of concern and suggest improvements. Must demonstrate the ability to achieve targets and objectives. Numerate – production of accurate figure work and able to deal with complex figure work. Must have the ability to re-prioritise works at very short notice whilst delivering high performance services within exacting timeframes. Able to supervise a high performing team and specifically individual performance to meet service requirements through effective supervision. Must be able to demonstrate excellent planning, time management and organisational skills.
