About the Role
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulates financial services firms in the UK to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. The Strategy Department plays a central role in setting the FCA’s direction, supporting priorities, and overseeing delivery of the FCA’s strategy. We work collaboratively across the organisation, partnering flexibly with teams to ensure a joined-up approach and supporting senior leadership, including Executive Committee and Board decisions, with clear, evidence-based insight.
As a Performance Measurement Lead, you will bring strong experience in performance measurement to further develop our approach to reporting and evaluation, strengthening how we measure and communicate progress against our strategy. Your focus will be on measuring the difference our work makes to consumers and markets, with an emphasis on strategic insight.
Your responsibilities will include designing and delivering complex performance measurement frameworks alongside colleagues, improving metrics through benchmarking, target setting and refining methodologies. You will identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency in data collection and reporting, including increasing automation and AI use. You will analyse and interpret performance data to assess delivery against strategy, providing clear insights that support decision making across the organisation. You will communicate performance insights effectively, including presenting to Executive Committee and Board, and supporting transparent external reporting through the FCA Annual Report.
You will act as an experienced professional in performance measurement methodologies, advising colleagues and maintaining high standards across the organisation. While operating as an individual contributor, you will also support and guide junior colleagues, taking on line and task management responsibilities to build team capability. You will proactively support wider Strategy Department priorities, flexing to emerging needs and contributing to cross-team initiatives.
Experience
- Proven experience in performance measurement, including indicator selection, direction and target setting, and reporting.
- Practical understanding of causal chain or logic model and similar evaluation approaches to assess how activities lead to outcomes and impacts.
- Evidence of managing key stakeholders, building rapport and constructive relationships, including convincing stakeholders at all levels with clear, evidence-based arguments and appropriately challenging when needed.
- Experience working across teams and functions, facilitating coordination and contributing to shared outcomes.
- Ability to analyse complex information and develop practical, well-reasoned recommendations that support effective decision making.
- Ability to make clear, logical and timely decisions, identifying when to escalate issues appropriately.
- Experience responding positively to challenges, handling changing priorities, and remaining effective and flexible in a dynamic environment.
- Regularly identifying opportunities to improve processes, approaches and outcomes to create efficiencies and progress these improvements.
