About the Role
As a Perinatal Mental Health Community Nursery Nurse within the PBEW Service, you will provide practical and therapeutic support to strengthen early attachment by observing parent-infant interactions and escalating concerns appropriately. You will implement structured programmes such as infant development guidance, parenting support, and emotional wellbeing strategies under the supervision of specialist clinicians. Your role includes offering tailored guidance on infant care, routines, and development while supporting parents experiencing perinatal mental health challenges. You will work collaboratively with midwives, health visitors, mental health teams, and social care to ensure joined-up support and safe, consistent care pathways. Maintaining accurate records, monitoring progress, and contributing to risk assessments by sharing observations with the wider clinical team are key responsibilities. You will provide one-to-one support to parents and caregivers, including emotional well-being visits, practical guidance, and low-intensity interventions as directed by the multidisciplinary team. Supporting parents in managing baby care, understanding how mental illness may impact this, and ensuring infants’ needs are identified and met within agreed care plans are essential. You will develop therapeutic relationships with women and their families, communicate effectively with them and their support networks, assist in planning and delivering group programmes for parents with mild to moderate mental health needs, and keep clear, contemporaneous electronic records in line with service and safeguarding requirements.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working with parents and infants in a health or community setting is desirable. Experience in supporting families affected by perinatal mental health challenges is advantageous.

About you
You will be compassionate, patient, and able to build trusting therapeutic relationships with parents and families. You should have strong communication and observational skills, be able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, and demonstrate an understanding of perinatal mental health and infant development. You must be committed to delivering evidence-based, coordinated care and maintaining accurate records in line with safeguarding policies.

Qualifications
Relevant nursing qualification or equivalent experience in community nursery nursing or a related field is required. Additional training or experience in perinatal mental health is beneficial.
