About the Role
At Mace, our purpose is to redefine the boundaries of ambition by creating responsible places that bring transformative impact to people, communities, and societies globally. Within our consult business, we combine leading-edge practical expertise and project delivery consultancy to unlock the potential in every project.

Mace has been appointed on a framework for a transport client, providing project controls and PMO services for new build construction work across multiple secure sites throughout the UK. As Planning Manager, you will lead the planning team to deliver comprehensive planning support across large-scale, complex rail, road, bus, or property-related projects.

Your responsibilities will include ensuring consistent and competent monitoring, recording, and analysis of project performance against baselines and change control processes. You will develop and implement business strategies that embed planning lessons learned, establish and maintain a motivated programme planning team, and manage the implementation of planning work processes and procedures.

You will assess and implement changes to planning methods to improve performance, review contractual schedules and compensation events to support commercial aspects, and analyse critical time schedule issues to ensure viable resolution plans. Managing complex multi-project programme schedules to deliver intended business benefits is a key part of this role.

Additionally, you will conduct project controls orientation and training sessions, assist senior management with interpreting schedule and cost reports, and provide ongoing training to enhance planning capability within the business unit. You will collate best practice intelligence from internal and external sources to share across the organisation.

As a leader, you will drive a positive safety culture within projects and ensure your team is committed to managing and improving health, safety, and environmental performance. You will also demonstrate leadership in equality of opportunity, social inclusion, fair employment, and environmental sustainability, fostering an open, inclusive, and engaging environment across stakeholders, customers, and supply chains.
