About the Role
As a Podiatrist within the Primary Care Foot Health Service, you will assess and treat patients presenting with a range of routine podiatry and foot health needs. Your responsibilities will include delivering routine nail care and nail reduction procedures, managing corns and calluses, and undertaking basic diabetic foot screening and risk assessments in line with local protocols. You will identify and escalate patients presenting with diabetic foot complications, infections, vascular compromise, or other high-risk foot conditions according to local pathways. Complex or non-routine cases will be escalated to the Lead FCP Podiatrist or appropriate specialist services.

You will provide foot health education and self-management advice to patients and carers, refer patients to specialist podiatry, GP services, or secondary care pathways as appropriate, and recognise red flag presentations to escalate accordingly. Promoting mobility, independence, and preventative foot health interventions will be key aspects of your role.

Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical records in accordance with HCPC, Royal College of Podiatry, and Promni Health standards is essential. You will deliver care based on evidence-based practice and professional guidelines.

Service delivery includes running podiatry clinics across designated Primary Care Network sites, supporting the reduction of waiting times, improving patient access, contributing to service activity and quality targets, ensuring efficient use of clinical appointment capacity, and participating in audits, quality improvement projects, and service development initiatives.

Team working is vital; you will collaborate with GPs, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Care Navigators, First Contact Practitioners, and wider multidisciplinary teams. Regular clinical supervision with the Lead FCP Podiatrist, escalation of clinical concerns, supporting a positive team culture, and sharing best practice are expected.

Professional development is encouraged through annual appraisals, personal development planning, maintaining an up-to-date CPD portfolio, attending mandatory and service-specific training, maintaining HCPC registration and professional standards, and participating in clinical audits and reflective practice activities.

Experience
Experience in delivering high-quality patient-centred podiatry care within a primary care or community setting is desirable. Ability to undertake diabetic foot screening and risk assessment in line with local protocols is essential.
