About the Role
The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a Principal Private Sector Housing Officer to undertake enforcement functions that enable the Council to meet its statutory obligations for environmental protection. This role involves inspection, enforcement, education, and advice within a customer-facing, front-line environment. You will represent Harrow Council in often challenging circumstances, performing enforcement duties approximately 25% to 40% from an office base and 60% to 75% site-based visits to premises across Harrow, carrying appropriate equipment. Working as part of an enforcement team, you will operate in accordance with statutory requirements and relevant Council policies and procedures. As a duly authorised Officer, you will educate and collaborate with internal and external organisations to enhance public safety and wellbeing.

Experience
- Substantial and relevant experience managing a complex caseload in two or more disciplines related to environmental health or public protection.
- Proven ability to work efficiently and effectively in demanding and pressurised environments, both independently and as part of a team.

- Excellent knowledge of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Team and the wider Public Protection Team, with the ability to undertake functions across teams as required.
- High standard of written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Competent in the use of standard computer systems.
- Inclusive team player who fosters partnership working and collaboration across teams to achieve desired outcomes.
- Ability to work outside normal hours when necessary, including emergency response.
- Full current driving licence.
Qualifications
- Environmental Health Degree or relevant Level 6 qualification, or direct evidence of relevant and substantial experience.
- Two or more advanced level qualifications.
- Maths and English at GCSE level or equivalent.
