About the Role
You will manage a caseload of residents at risk of homelessness, working proactively to sustain tenancies, prevent eviction and support landlord compliance. This includes early intervention in tenancy breakdown, providing practical support and advice to tenants and landlords, and identifying and referring cases where there may be breaches of housing legislation to the appropriate teams. You will work closely with internal teams such as Private Housing Services, legal representatives and external partners to deliver effective prevention outcomes, reduce the need for temporary accommodation and support residents to maintain stable housing.

In this role, you will:
- Manage a complex caseload of homelessness prevention cases involving private rented sector tenancies at risk of eviction or breakdown, using professional judgement to identify and implement appropriate interventions.
- Act proactively to prevent homelessness by intervening early in landlord and tenant disputes, negotiating sustainable solutions to enable residents to remain in their accommodation where it is safe and reasonable to do so.
- Provide specialist advice to residents and landlords on their legal rights and responsibilities, tenancy conditions, and available remedies to prevent eviction.
- Make independent decisions on appropriate prevention actions in accordance with legislation, statutory guidance, and Council policy.
- Identify and investigate potential breaches of housing legislation, including unlawful eviction, harassment and non-compliance with statutory requirements, and gather, analyse and evaluate evidence to support enforcement action by Private Housing Services and legal proceedings where required.

Requirements

Experience
- Experience of working within a housing or homelessness service and managing a caseload.
- Experience supporting residents at risk of homelessness to achieve positive outcomes.
- Confident in managing complex and sensitive situations, working constructively with tenants and landlords to sustain tenancies and prevent eviction.
- Experience of providing clear and accurate housing advice, understanding legal processes and using professional judgement to identify appropriate interventions.

About you
- Motivated and proactive.
- Strong knowledge of homelessness and the private rented sector.
- Understanding of the changes introduced through the Renters’ Rights Act 2025.
- Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and build effective relationships with internal services and external partners.
- Resilient, adaptable and committed to delivering high-quality, resident-focused services in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Qualifications
Not explicitly stated, but a strong understanding of housing legislation and homelessness prevention is essential.
