About the Role
The Public Health Project Officer will work within the UK Overseas Territories (UKOTs) Health Security Programme at UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). This programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), aims to strengthen health systems in the UKOTs to prevent, detect and respond to health emergencies and threats. The role involves providing technical expertise and support across public health fields including Health Protection, Health Promotion, and Health Intelligence for both communicable and non-communicable diseases and other hazards.
The postholder will support the programme objectives, particularly within Health Promotion and Resilient Communities activities, providing technical advice on non-communicable diseases, mental health and wellbeing, vulnerable populations, and healthy behaviours. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and the capacity to build strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include project management of specific programme strands, supporting the Public Health Technical Advisor and Consultant in Global Public Health, coordinating business management activities, managing compliance with UKHSA and ODA guidelines, preparing and managing meetings, and reporting on project status and risks. The role may require occasional international travel to UK Overseas Territories for short durations.

Experience
- Master’s degree in Public Health or equivalent substantial professional experience in public health, population health, healthcare improvement, or health promotion programmes.
- Experience working on international projects or programmes.
- Demonstrable experience supporting delivery in a project or programme environment, including planning, scheduling, and adapting to changing priorities.
- Ability to collate, analyse, and interpret financial, service, activity or research data and translate findings into clear insights.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders including government, community organisations, and delivery partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and influence decision-making.
- Knowledge of best practice in community engagement, including co-production and inclusive approaches.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work autonomously on complex workstreams involving multiple dependencies and stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of project management methodologies and frameworks.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Qualifications
