About the Role
As a Receptionist at Mildmay Mission Hospital, you will be the first point of contact, ensuring the highest levels of customer care at all times. Your responsibilities include managing all phone calls promptly, efficiently, and courteously, greeting visitors and ensuring they follow hospital procedures such as signing in and wearing visitor badges. You will communicate tactfully and confidentially with the general public, relatives, and patients, sometimes handling difficult and stressful situations.
You will oversee the smooth and efficient administration of the reception area, including challenging visitors to wards or departments and confirming visits with relevant staff. You will be responsible for allocating and maintaining bleeps, booking patient transport according to policy, assisting clinical staff with patient movement within reception, and supporting pharmacy and specimen collections.
Additional duties include signing for and distributing deliveries, maintaining security awareness, managing the safekeeping of keys out of hours, responding to emergency alarms, and participating in the training of new bank receptionists. In case of telephone system failure, you will implement emergency action plans to maintain service.
You will also provide administrative and clerical support, including word processing for other departments such as Fundraising and Senior Management, assisting with audits and surveys, managing incoming and outgoing mail, maintaining filing systems and directories, booking conference and meeting rooms, and ensuring hospital safety through site patrols, CCTV and alarm monitoring, car park management, and incident reporting.
Your role is vital in assisting the prevention of violence, crime, or disorder within the hospital premises.
Experience
Previous experience in a reception or customer service role is desirable but not explicitly required. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with tact and confidentiality is essential.
