About the Role
As the Lead Driver, you will be responsible for the efficient and timely transportation of the UTC Out of Hours and Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) services, facilitating the transportation of GPs to deliver patient care. You will maintain comprehensive knowledge of the fleet vehicles to operate any vehicle as needed and assist in conducting vehicle safety checks during shifts to ensure the safety of GPs, yourself, and the public. You will coordinate rotas for the team, conduct annual appraisals, and manage annual leave and sickness via the digital HR system. Adhering to driver rota and shift schedules in compliance with working time regulations is essential. You will provide support to colleagues to minimize lone working, prioritizing personal and collective safety.

Your duties include ensuring the secure handling of drugs and clinical equipment during shift turnover with appropriate recording, undertaking regular stock checks, completing timesheets, vehicle log sheets, and logbooks. You will assist in monitoring daily transport performance and report findings to the lead driver. Maintaining the cleanliness, security, and routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment during shifts is required, as well as reporting and addressing any necessary repairs to guarantee fitness for use.

Operating all in-car communications and patient management system equipment to support accurate record keeping is part of the role. You will support the induction and guidance of new employees to familiarise them with business operations and the geographical area. Planning the most efficient routes for and between home visits, assisting with basic administrative duties including using Microsoft Outlook to read and respond to emails, and participating in licence checks, driver assessments, and mandatory driver training are also key responsibilities.

Fostering positive communication among drivers, GPs, UTC colleagues, and external partners, engaging actively in team and departmental meetings, supporting GPs with chaperoning and any assistance required, directing calls to appropriate extensions, dealing with telephone enquiries, and recording messages when necessary are important aspects of this role. Maintaining a professional appearance with attire suitable for a business environment is expected.
