Introduction
The Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) is responsible for physical and personnel security across both Houses of Parliament and provides support to Members and staff when away from the Estate. Its purpose is to keep Parliament safe and open for business.
PSD sets security strategy provides expert advice and delivers an operational service.
The Role
The Security Information and Risk Analysis Service (SIRAS) is a team that collects, stores, analyses and disseminates information about threats to MPs and wider Parliament, and uses this information to drive a structured and bespoke risk analysis process and tailored security mitigations to Members of Parliament.
Security Information Research Analysts will work within the Information Collection branch of SIRAS. The role will involve using specialised software to exploit open sources for the benefit of Members' security, contributing to SIRAS's understanding of the risks to MPs, staff and Parliament.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
Using approved open-source monitoring software, build complex queries and analyse data in order to surface actionable security risks
Conduct online vulnerability assessments for Members of Parliament, identifying where information about Members might be exposed online
Analyse open sources (e.g. news and social media) to understand the impact of trending national and international events on Parliament and Parliamentarians
Use understanding of available open sources and assessment skills to conduct comprehensive open-source research on a variety of both strategic and tactical security risk topics
Prepare detailed reports about MPs online profile/incidents for JoPRAH, and support efforts to analyse and obtain strategic insight into trends, risks and patterns to help advise MPs and staff, predict when serious abuse or threats may occur and inform the risk assessment process.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
Specialist Knowledge of Identifying Risk:
Able to collate information from a variety of open sources and assessing the validity of the obtained information.
Supporting managers in making risk-based decisions and producing positive outcomes for customers.
Diversity & Inclusion:
Ability to build inclusive and effective relationships, whilst upholding the values of diversity, equality and inclusion.
Communication:
Ability to quickly summarise and draw out relevant insights from a large number of social media sources, open sources and other information.
Ability to engage productively with a wide range of stakeholders and customers.

The ability to manage and prioritise own workload, whilst working collaboratively with team members (in hybrid settings).
Digital Skills:
Knowledge of Office 365 tools and common social media platforms.
An understanding of reporting harmful content and managing exposure to unpleasant and abusive material.
