About the Role
Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after six of the most iconic palaces, including the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the Banqueting House, Kew Palace, and Hillsborough Castle. We help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society in some of the greatest palaces ever built.
This position is offered on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2027, and we are seeking candidates available for the full duration of the contract.
You will join the highly-skilled Tower of London Security Team, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all visitors, staff, residents, and guests. You must uphold high moral and ethical standards, treating all persons with dignity and respect.
Your responsibilities will include controlling pedestrian and vehicle access, key control, regular patrols to enhance security, responding to alarms and security incidents, providing security for evening functions and events, liaising with Metropolitan Police and Emergency Services, greeting visitors, conducting bag searches, managing the Business reception desk, and projecting a smart, efficient, and helpful image at all times.
This role requires a motivated and enthusiastic individual committed to delivering excellent customer care and security awareness, supporting frontline visitor teams, and maintaining a vigilant presence throughout the Tower.
Experience
Previous experience working in the security sector is essential. You must hold a valid SIA Level 2 Security Guard (SG) qualification.

You will have an enthusiastic and professional approach, high standards of punctuality and personal presentation, excellent customer service and communication skills. Being a "people person" is essential as you will work closely with a small team and interact with diverse visitors and staff.
You must be flexible with your working hours and prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions. The ability to think and act quickly and decisively in emergencies or under pressure is vital. You should be able to use your own initiative to identify improvements and ensure excellent customer service.

Qualifications
A valid SIA Level 2 Security Guard (SG) licence is mandatory for this position.
