Introduction The Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) is responsible for physical and personnel security across both Houses of Parliament and provides support to Members and staff when away from the Estate. Its purpose is to keep Parliament safe and open for business. PSD sets security strategy provides expert advice and delivers an operational service. It does this in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and by working closely with the Parliamentary Maintenance Services Team (PMST), Strategic Estates, Serjeant at Arms and Black Rod's office, Restoration & Renewal teams, the Parliamentary Digital Service, and other key stakeholders. The Role The Security Officer Manager directly manages Security Officers deployed across the large Parliamentary estate, on 365 days a year, 24 hours a day rotation. The post holder will work alongside both armed and unarmed colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service to ensure that all security policies and procedures are in place and ensuring the security of the estate. Security Officer managers will be expected to deploy to incidents, supporting their staff and assisting PSD senior managers and our Metropolitan Police colleagues. They will be part of the key day to day operational security as well as leaders of their staff on ceremonial events such as State Opening of Parliament, Laying in State, State visits, Speakers Events, and other high-profile events. Security Officer Managers are often encouraged to take part in representative roles for PSD Operations on subjects such as Health & Safety and Fire Safety. Some of the responsibilities for this role include: Ensure that Security Officers maintain the required standard of appearance and professionalism, leading by example and challenging behaviours when they do not meet requirements. Ensure that Security Officers are well briefed, ensure that all incidents and events across the estate are supervised and reported correctly, as well as initiating required actions and taking instruction from senior management. Clearly and effectively communicate required information to senior managers and stakeholders, both written and verbally. Skills and Experience To be successful in this role you will demonstrate: The ability to develop and manage the performance of individuals and maintain good conduct in an operational environment whilst adhering to policy and procedure. Experience of working with diverse groups of people, upholding the principles of diversity, equality and inclusion, ensuring that everyone is, at all times, treated with dignity, courtesy and respect. Ability to manage security incidents, delivering appropriate response and threat mitigation through a collaborative approach working with multiple stakeholders where required. Able to communicate, clearly and effectively with excellent organisational and decision-making skills. Ability to gather relevant information, from a variety of sources, to understand specific issues and events and then to use that information to identify problems and draw logical conclusions. Experience and knowledge of Security Operations in a high threat and high-profile security environment, including demonstrable understanding of current threats and threat methodologies.
