About the Role
Are you calm under pressure, technically confident, and motivated by keeping vital live services running smoothly? Join the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit (PBU) as a Senior AV Coordinator, helping ensure Parliament’s debates, committees and events are broadcast seamlessly to audiences in the UK and around the world.
The Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit is a small, dynamic team responsible for televising, streaming, and archiving all public proceedings and events. You will operate and maintain complex hybrid conferencing systems, manage the House of Commons Annunciator service, and support a range of digital products.
As a key member of the operational team, your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring audio and video recordings for all public parliamentary debates and meetings, including scheduling and monitoring recordings within the Unit’s media asset management system and assigning transmission paths.
- Monitoring live broadcast output and recordings, troubleshooting issues promptly, and escalating to third-party providers when necessary.
- Supporting the smooth daily running of parliamentlive.tv by monitoring live streams and flagging any performance issues.
- Engaging with and closely monitoring all parliamentary business, publishing clear and accurate live updates via the Annunciator system for the Commons Chamber and Westminster Hall, and logging proceedings of both Houses.
- Carrying out live single-operator broadcast operations of Select Committee meetings, including occasional work away from the Parliamentary Estate.
- Facilitating archive requests and undertaking simple editing tasks.
- Contributing to service ownership activities and project work alongside the PBU Senior Leadership Team.
You will also support hybrid and virtual proceedings, assist with sound and vision duties as required, respond to Member queries about the parliamentary video service, and help maintain subtitle corrections and edited uploads. Full training for all technical duties will be provided.
Experience
- Experience working with audio and video broadcast, either live or with pre-recorded material.
- Experience developing skills using a range of IT and broadcast technologies, including scheduling, monitoring or post-production tools.
- Proven ability to work flexibly and inclusively within a coordinated team to deliver high-quality service.
