About the Role
Join Biffa as an experienced Engineering Supervisor responsible for overseeing and guiding the engineering team to achieve optimal performance. You will effectively address operational engineering needs and manage workloads to minimise downtime. This role combines technical expertise, project management skills, and leadership to drive operational excellence. You will support the development of others by enhancing their skills and implementing best practices, contributing to a safe and high performing culture within the engineering teams.
Your key responsibilities include supervising and leading Maintenance Engineers and Technicians to respond efficiently to operational engineering demands, prioritising workloads to reduce downtime. You will ensure compliance with all safety regulations, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Producing and reviewing safety documents and job instruction procedures for engineering tasks on-site will be essential.
Additional duties include overseeing scheduled maintenance days, coordinating contractors, managing the permit to work system, and ensuring safety for all personnel involved. You will develop team members’ abilities through coaching and guidance in problem-solving related to plant and machinery faults. Communicating team performance and activities via shift reports and handovers to management, engineering, and production teams is critical.
You will lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities to identify failure causes and implement preventative measures to improve plant uptime. Proactively identifying potential faults and opportunities for improvement in plant and equipment to prevent failures or enhance efficiency is expected. You will also manage and oversee shutdown planning and execution, coordinating tasks, supervising contractors, and enforcing safety protocols.
Experience
Level 3 Qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Previous leadership experience
Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
Budget and P&L management skills
Comfortable using Microsoft applications and ability to learn other tools such as Trello and Slack
