About the Role
As a Senior Governance Officer at The NHS Alliance, you will be responsible for delivering the Confederation's board secretarial functions. This includes coordinating board and committee meetings, ensuring all work is conducted in accordance with agreed processes and legal timescales, and following up on actions. You will assist in delivering a clear annual plan for the board and its committees, ensuring effective planning and preparation, while managing urgent and ad hoc priorities as they arise. Working closely with the wider governance team, you will maintain an effective forward planner and agenda-setting process that reflects organisational needs. You will ensure the Chair of the Board or Committee is comprehensively briefed to support effective chairing of meetings. Attendance at Board and Committee meetings to record accurate minutes and track actions to completion is a key part of the role. Additionally, you will maintain an up-to-date repository of Board and Committee documentation, decisions, and governance records.

PA to the Chair
You will assist in managing the Chair’s diary, including scheduling, prioritising, and planning meetings, as well as coordinating travel, logistics, and event arrangements. Ensuring the Chair is appropriately briefed and fully supported to fulfil their role is essential. You will handle incoming and outgoing correspondence on behalf of the Chair, including emails, letters, and other communications, and support the Chair in responding to organisational requests such as reviewing and signing official documents, approving communications, and preparing responses to enquiries. Close collaboration with the CEO’s office to promote effective working between the Chair and CEO is required. Maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion in managing sensitive information is critical.

Support the Wider Governance of the Organisation
You will support the wider governance team in delivering objectives around governance, ethics, risk, and compliance as delegated by the Governance and Compliance Manager. Ensuring the Board complies with statutory, regulatory, and constitutional requirements and upholding high standards of governance are fundamental responsibilities.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in governance or board secretarial roles is highly desirable. Experience supporting senior executives, particularly Chairs or CEOs, is advantageous. Familiarity with governance frameworks, compliance, and risk management is beneficial.

About you
You are highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively. You demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams. You maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information. You are proactive, adaptable, and able to respond to urgent and ad hoc requests professionally.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in governance, administration, or related fields are desirable but not essential. A commitment to continuous professional development and learning is important.
