About the Role
As a Senior Pharmacy Assistant in the dispensary, you will play a key role in supporting the pharmacy team by accurately dispensing prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist or accredited checking technician. Your responsibilities will include dispensing medicines, including those in Multi-Compartment Compliance Aids (MCA), and controlled drugs, ensuring all tasks are completed safely and in line with regulatory standards. You will supervise the activities of Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs) within the dispensary, ensuring daily, weekly, and monthly duties are carried out efficiently. Additional duties include daily room temperature monitoring, filing and archiving prescriptions, managing dispensary stock top-ups, distributing post, and returning patient-named medication from wards back to stock. This role requires strong attention to detail, leadership within the dispensary team, and adherence to all health and safety protocols.
Experience
Previous experience working in a dispensary environment is essential. Experience in supervising junior staff or ATOs is highly desirable. Familiarity with dispensing controlled drugs and Multi-Compartment Compliance Aids (MCA) under supervision is required.

Strong communication and supervisory skills are important for this role. You are proactive in managing dispensary duties and stock control.
Qualifications
Relevant pharmacy assistant qualifications or equivalent experience in a healthcare dispensary setting are required. Training or accreditation in dispensing procedures and controlled drugs is advantageous.
