About the Role
You will be responsible for providing a safe, efficient, and accurate ward-based pharmacy service by liaising closely with pharmacists, nursing, and medical staff. This role offers the opportunity to develop Medicines Optimisation and Patient Counselling skills within inpatient cancer wards. You will provide ward-based medicines management services including medicine reconciliation, discharge planning, and patient and carer counselling. Acting as a key link between ward teams and pharmacy services, you will help resolve medicines-related issues and optimise the patient experience. You will ensure the safe, effective, and timely supply of medicines to patients across the inpatient cancer wards at Guy's Hospital.

In addition, you will undertake dispensing, final accuracy checking (as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician), and issuing of medicines to maintain a safe and efficient service. You will complete medication storage audits including Controlled Drug audits, stock reconciliation, and expiry checks, reporting any discrepancies promptly. Developing and maintaining a safe, efficient, and cost-effective medicines supply service to patients is a key part of this role.

You will work collaboratively with nursing, medical, and pharmacy colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary inpatient cancer ward team. Participation in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and service development projects is expected. You will also support the training and supervision of rotational pharmacy staff and trainees, contributing to a culture of continuous learning. This structured environment supports the wider team to meet key directorate targets while delivering pharmacy services to patients with complex cancer conditions and supporting junior staff development.

Requirements

Experience
Demonstrable competencies in hospital clinical pharmacy practice are essential. Experience working within a multidisciplinary team in a hospital setting, preferably in oncology or cancer services, is highly desirable.

About you
Excellent communication skills and a commitment to pharmaceutical care are required. You should be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities, and work effectively within a team. A proactive approach to service development and quality improvement is important. You will be supportive of training and supervising junior staff and trainees, fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Qualifications
Registered Pharmacy Technician qualification and relevant professional registration are required. Additional qualifications or training related to oncology pharmacy or medicines optimisation would be advantageous.
