About the Role
We have a 12-month Fixed Term Contract opportunity for a Senior Planning Officer within Lambeth Council's Development Management service. This role offers a chance to negotiate the best possible development outcomes in a positive, solutions-led manner while helping to deliver a high-performing service. The postholder will work collaboratively across the Development Management Team, handling pre-applications, planning applications, and appeals. This role involves dual processing applications through both the existing system (Uniform/Idox) and the future Planning system (Plan X, Back Office Planning System), including testing new digital tools and providing feedback to support user-centered design. You will also work closely with the Digital Innovation Team on key digital projects and be expected to present applications to the Planning Applications Committee, ensuring reports and documents are of a high standard.

Experience
- Significant experience and knowledge of Development Management, ideally within a busy metropolitan area
- Experience managing a caseload including major and/or complex planning applications
- Proven ability to provide advice to councillors, senior officers, developers, and the public on planning matters
- Experience supervising or guiding junior staff to ensure timely and accurate reporting of applications
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for service improvement, user-centered design, research, analysis, and business process enhancement

Qualifications
- RTPI-recognised degree level qualification in Town Planning or equivalent
- Eligible for Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
- Thorough knowledge of relevant planning legislation, policies, and procedures
