About the Role
This scheme is designed for former qualified Senior Probation Officers who have left the Civil Service within the last five years and completed their probationary period and training. It offers a fast-track return to the Probation Service without the need for lengthy application forms, interviews, or repeating entry-level training. Successful applicants will join their former colleagues in working to keep the public safe and rehabilitate people on probation. The scheme provides options for full or part-time, permanent or temporary contracts (three, six, or nine months with potential extension up to two years). Temporary staff receive full Civil Service benefits except permanent tenure, automatic pension enrolment (with opt-out option), and 25 days' leave per annum pro rata. Work base locations will be discussed following eligibility confirmation, with efforts made to offer vacancies within a 60-minute commute of the applicant's home. Pre-employment checks including Occupational Health Review and Enhanced Level 2 security vetting (including DBS) are required. Access to the multi-agency ViSOR database requires Non-Police Personnel Vetting Level 2. An individualised training needs analysis will be completed upon return to identify and schedule any required training.
