About the Role
Personalised Experiences and Communications (PEC) is a key business platform within Consumer Relationships that supports Lloyds Banking Group's strategic goals by deepening customer relationships. PEC delivers personalised communications and experiences across all channels and business areas, enabling the Customer Relationship Growth strategy for retail and commercial banking. It drives data, analytics, and technology to enhance branded experiences, propositions, pricing, and sustainable, paper-free ambitions.
We are scaling a bank-wide real-time decisioning capability to power next best experiences across digital, colleague, and outbound channels. This role leads the end-to-end solution architecture for decisioning within the PEC Platform, shaping how the Decisioning Ecosystem (NBA, engagement/contact policies, arbitration) integrates with data platforms and channels. You will ensure designs meet demanding non-functional targets such as latency, resilience, cost effectiveness, security, and observability, while setting guardrails and patterns for squads and partners to deliver safely and consistently.
Key responsibilities include owning solution architecture for real-time decisioning, defining and evolving end-to-end designs spanning the Decisioning Ecosystem, data access layers, and channel integrations. You will architect data flows across GCP, Kafka/eventing, and digital signal sources to provide sub-second context for decisions and feedback loops. Setting measurable non-functional requirements and service level objectives, establishing reusable patterns and guardrails, championing security, privacy, and compliance, and partnering across labs, vendors, and teams to accelerate value are central to this role.
You will also contribute to the PEC architecture roadmap, balancing vendor capabilities and in-house builds to enable safe iteration without vendor lock-in.
Our working model is product-led with autonomous squads, strong governance, transparent change processes, and a hybrid, collaborative approach across UK and global technology centres.
Join us on an exciting transformation journey where investments in people, data, and technology are driving innovative projects and new ways to work, learn, and thrive.
Experience
- Deep architecture experience in real-time decisioning, personalisation, or marketing technology at scale within regulated environments.
- Expertise in modern data and integration including event-driven architectures (Kafka), streaming and batch patterns, API design, identity resolution, and experimentation/measurement pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems design covering fault tolerance, scaling, consistency models, retries, idempotency, backpressure, high availability, and multi-zone/region patterns.
- Experience with public cloud providers (GCP/AWS/Azure) including core networking/VPC, IAM and security controls, service connectivity, managed data/streaming services, observability, and cost governance/FinOps.
- Proficiency in cloud and engineering foundations such as CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, observability, reliability engineering, performance engineering, and cost governance.
- Familiarity with architecture practices including C4 modelling, ADRs, threat modelling, zero trust/data security by design, and effective governance communication.
About You
- Collaborative and able to work closely with product engineering squads, data science/ML teams, platform engineering, InfoSec, and delivery partners.
- Strong advocate for security, privacy, compliance, explainability, and fairness in decisioning.
- Comfortable working in a product-led, autonomous squad environment with strong governance and measurement culture.
- Passionate about innovation and continuous improvement in large-scale, multi-brand contexts.
Qualifications
While specific qualifications are not listed, the role requires extensive experience and expertise in solution architecture, cloud platforms, distributed systems, and real-time decisioning technologies.
Desirable Skills
- Hands-on Pega CDH expertise or equivalent real-time decisioning platform experience including NBA strategy, arbitration, engagement policies, taxonomy, simulation, and change governance.
- Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform services such as BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Dataflow (Apache Beam), Cloud Run/GKE, Cloud Functions, IAM, VPC/Private Service Connect, Cloud Logging/Monitoring, Secret Manager, and Org Policies.
- Experience with digital signal and CDP ecosystems (e.g., Tealium, Celebrus, Adobe AEP/AJO) and content/experience assembly platforms (e.g., AEM, in-house mapping via Phoenix).
- Familiarity with ML/MLOps including model monitoring, explainability, bias/fairness controls, offline/online learning, and experimentation at scale.
- Prior experience working in large-scale, multi-brand environments involving contact policies, suppression, pressure rules, and governance.
