About the Role
As a Shift Lead at Morris House Group Practice, you will provide supervision and guidance to the reception and administration team, acting as the key communication link between management and reception staff. You will support the Practice Manager, Deputy Practice Managers, and Reception Manager with continuous improvement and change initiatives. Your role includes ensuring patients are received, assisted, and directed to the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a caring, courteous, and effective manner. You will lead by positive role-modelling and example, ensuring the implementation of practice procedures and policies and that all daily duties are completed before the end of the day.

You will provide general assistance to the practice team, project a positive and friendly image to patients and visitors, and assist the practice in achieving target-based functions such as the Quality and Outcomes Framework or Locally Commissioned Services. Maintaining a safe and efficient working environment, resolving patient queries, planning the reception rota with adequate cover, and quickly resolving IT issues including printers, EMIS system, calling board, and check-in machine are key responsibilities.

Training new and existing staff to ensure competence in their roles, maintaining effective communication with the Practice Management Team, and assisting in the development of protocols, standard procedures, and performance standards are essential. You will also deal with general administrative issues, attend regular and ad hoc staff meetings, and undertake other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth running of the practice.

Confidentiality is paramount; you will handle sensitive patient and practice information with discretion and in accordance with policies. You will promote health and safety by identifying and managing risks, maintaining cleanliness, and following infection control procedures.

The practice is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. You will support these values by respecting the rights, privacy, dignity, and beliefs of patients, carers, and colleagues.

Safeguarding vulnerable adults, children, and young people is a key responsibility, including attending relevant training and complying with procedures.

Personal and professional development is encouraged through participation in training, annual performance reviews, and keeping up to date with legislative changes.

You will contribute to maintaining quality within the practice by assessing your own performance, contributing to team effectiveness, managing your time and resources efficiently, and communicating effectively with team members, patients, and carers.

Finally, you will apply practice policies and standards, participate in audits where appropriate, and contribute to the continuous improvement of services.
