About the Role

As a Stakeholder Manager, you will lead HMRC's engagement with the tax agent community, a vital partner in the delivery of Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax. This large-scale transformation programme is modernising how millions of taxpayers keep digital records and report their income, creating a more efficient tax system. You will build and maintain trusted relationships with tax agents, professional bodies, software providers, and other external stakeholders, helping them understand and prepare for upcoming changes.

You will be a visible ambassador for the programme, representing HMRC at conferences, webinars, and stakeholder events, ensuring external insights shape our approach. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the credibility to engage confidently with the tax profession on complex policy and operational matters. It is an exciting opportunity to influence a major government transformation programme and contribute to its successful delivery.

Requirements

Experience
Proven ability to interpret complex tax, policy, or technical requirements and translate them into clear, practical, and accessible messages for external audiences.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, including experience representing organisations at various stakeholder events and responding confidently to challenge.
Significant experience influencing senior external stakeholders and building effective partnerships that support organisational priorities.

About you
You are a confident and credible professional with strong technical knowledge of Income Tax Self Assessment, digital accounting practices, and Making Tax Digital. You have excellent interpersonal skills and can build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders. You are proactive, adaptable, and able to represent HMRC effectively in a range of public forums.

Qualifications
Fully qualified Accountant and/or Tax Adviser (ACA, ACCA, CTA/ATT).
Membership of a relevant professional body (ICAEW, ICAS, CAI, ACCA, CIOT, ATT, CIMA, CIPFA) or equivalent professional expertise demonstrated through substantial relevant experience.
