About the Role
As a Stop Smoking Specialist Advisor, you will deliver an acute-based stop smoking service for all smokers, including pregnant women, individuals living with severe physical or mental health conditions, and those experiencing inequalities as identified by the CORE20+5 or VITAL 5 approaches. You will provide effective stop smoking support for people who live, work, study, or have a GP in Lewisham. Your role includes contributing to service KPIs for all identified groups of smokers and developing expertise in effective treatment programmes for people with a range of smoking-related health conditions.

You will oversee the planning and delivery of outreach and promotional activities within the service, understand nicotine addiction and the specific challenges faced by smokers accessing services from Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, and motivate clients to stop smoking and remain smoke-free. You will provide information on the benefits of smokefree homes for family health and use evidence-based approaches based on NICE guidance, OHID guidance, and recommendations from the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training.

Developing strong working relationships with professional staff and managers such as GPs, pharmacists, ward and community services, and Lewisham Council is essential. You will plan and create promotional material for distribution through community partnership forums and local communications teams to actively promote services. Additionally, you will plan and deliver a comprehensive training programme to promote a systematic, proactive approach to stopping smoking across the Trust and within the local community.

You will ensure that community services and departments provide Very Brief Advice (VBA) to refer patients for support and work with other referrers in the community and hospital to increase the number of smokers using the service by designing and implementing bespoke referral pathways.

Experience
Experience in delivering stop smoking services or working within health promotion is desirable. Knowledge of nicotine addiction and smoking cessation interventions is essential.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or training in smoking cessation, health promotion, or a related health field are preferred. Training will be provided to develop expertise in evidence-based stop smoking interventions and treatment programmes.
