About the Role
As a Speech & Language Therapist within Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, you will assess, develop, and implement speech and language therapy treatments for patients experiencing communication and swallowing difficulties. You will manage and prioritise your workload independently and make differential diagnoses based on assessment evidence, seeking advice when necessary. The role involves employing counselling skills with patients and carers, writing therapy programmes for assistants to deliver, and demonstrating specialist knowledge relevant to your current rotation, supported by evidence-based practice.
You will attend relevant training and development to maintain and enhance your skills as a specialist therapist. Maintaining up-to-date HPC and RCSLT registration is essential. You will keep abreast of new techniques and developments to promote best practice in your clinical area and demonstrate clinical effectiveness through evidence-based practice and outcome measures. Accurate and current case notes must be maintained in line with RCSLT professional standards and local trust policies.
Personal safety and that of clients and carers is paramount, including adherence to moving and handling regulations, restraining policies, lone working protocols, and ensuring safe positioning of yourself and others.

Experience
Experience in speech and language therapy practice is expected, with the ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload. Experience in counselling patients and carers is advantageous.
