About the Role
As a Technical Trading Standards Officer, you will lead and deliver Trading Standards responsibilities related to the private rented sector, implementing and enforcing the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 and associated legislation. Your role will protect residents and improve standards across the borough. You will support Trading Standards and, where relevant, Housing Regulatory Services teams in exercising their statutory powers and duties under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 and other relevant legislation. Acting as the lead officer in Barnet for this legislation, you will implement and enforce policies to promote fair and safe trading within the private rental sector. Additionally, you will support enforcement work related to compliance by letting agents with legislation including but not limited to the Tenants Fees Act 2019. Experience
Proven experience conducting investigations and enforcement within a regulatory environment.

Strong working knowledge of consumer protection, housing, and/or related legislation.
Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
Confidence in explaining legislation and regulatory requirements to diverse audiences.
Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise work effectively.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
Ability to adapt quickly to new technology.
