About the Role
We’re excited to be building a small, thoughtful, and effective TechOps team at Octopus Energy. As a TechOps Architect, you will play a key role in shaping how we support people across the business by leading with clarity, building with empathy, and bringing a mix of technical depth and sound judgment. You will be responsible for high-level strategic and architectural technical decisions, while also staying connected to day-to-day support challenges faced by users. This role involves working across identity management, scripting, device management, and scalable tooling to create thoughtful, sustainable solutions that help the business scale efficiently.
You will define what good looks like for a lean TechOps team, tackle complex technical issues as we scale to tens of thousands of users, and make wide-scale strategic technical decisions across the global Octopus Energy Group. You will design, build, and improve processes, automations, and systems to enhance user experience, remove inefficiencies, and keep the team small. Mentoring the wider TechOps team and collaborating closely with the Security team to balance security, productivity, and user experience will also be key parts of your role.
Typical projects include rollout and migration to new identity providers, macOS and Windows MDM migrations, device trust and posture compliance solutions, replacing insecure authentication factors, office technology fit-outs, and SaaS migrations for acquisitions. You will also manage supplier relationships and procurement for SaaS and hardware, and lead complex technical projects involving multiple stakeholders.
TechOps at Octopus is a modern, lean version of traditional enterprise IT, focusing on advising rather than enforcing and empowering teams to solve their own technology problems. We have a cloud-first approach, enabling rapid scaling and focus on high-value work. This role offers the opportunity to work autonomously on a wide range of technology challenges in a people-first, innovative environment.

About you
